The Independent international newspaper has reviewed a list from different tour operators of their best destinations to head to in 2020. Egypt has made it on to the list, that included about 18 countries or cities. All the recommended destinations are based on reviews, ratings, and other recommendations of famous international tourism sites.

Based on the luxury tour operator Abercrombie & Kent’s recommendation, Egypt is the place to visit in 2020. Resuming UK flights to the city of Sharm el-Sheikh and the increasing number of tourists, that reached 11 million last year, was one of the motivating factors behind this recommendation.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Cairo, scheduled to open in 2020, was also a recommended site to visit. The GEM will be the largest archaeological museum in the world, and its exhibition area will display a wide range of ancient Egyptian discoveries, 30 thousand of which have never been displayed in public.

This is not the first time for Egypt to be named among the best destinations to visit, especially in the past few months. In September 2019, Egypt won the UN World Tourism Organization’s Destination Marketing award for its tourism film which was a part of the #PeopleToPeople campaign. The mentioned campaign was the result of a partnership of Jeremy Jauncey’s Beautiful Destinations with Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism.

Also, Egypt’s Red Sea Mountain Trail was recently selected by Time magazine as one of 100 of the world’s greatest places. The Red Sea Mountain Trail is Egypt’s second long-distance hiking trail and takes about 10 days to complete. The 170 km-long path is a combination of ancient routes that Bedouins used to take. Egypt’s first hiking trail is the 220 km Sinai Trail, which was inaugurated in 2015.

Another title for Cairo was making it on to the world's favourite travel guide, the Lonely Planet’s "Best in Travel" list for 2020. The Egyptian capital came in third, following Salzburg, and Washington D.C, respectively.
