Excitement is building as Port Said prepares for the first edition of the Port Said Film Festival, which will take over the city this coming December. A turning point in the city’s history, the festival will honour cinematic talents from all over the region and celebrate Port Said’s beauty and artisan atmosphere.

Set to take place from the 1st to the 5th of December, the festival dates were carefully chosen to match Port Said’s National Memorial Day. As the residents of the city celebrate the holiday every December, this year, it will be elevated with the first round of the festival taking over the city.

Currently, the festival is accepting submissions from all over the region in five categories, allowing the city’s hidden talents to shine. The anticipated, soon-to-be-announced judging panel will comprise of three artists who will oversee short films, short documentaries, animated movies, student-produced films, and independent movies. The festival will also honour locally-produced cinematic pieces by showing movies filmed and produced by Port Said’s residents to celebrate the city’s culture and art.
Awards at the Port Said Film Festival:
Across five categories, various awards will be handed out to highlight talents on and off camera. The prestigious Golden and Silver Lantern Awards will honour the best films in the Independent Feature Film Competition. The Best Film Award will be presented to the film’s producer or director, while the Best Director Award will highlight exceptional directorial achievements.
Accolades will also be given for Best Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Actress for feature films. Additionally, three Certificates of Appreciation will recognise the top three films in the Mahmoud Yassin Forum for Port Said Filmmakers, awarded to the film’s directors. A Jury Special Mention Award will also be presented to the producer or director of a movie that has notably impressed the jury. The festival promises to be a celebration of outstanding cinematic talent and creativity.
