The Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF) is returning for its 14th edition from 11 October to 2 November 2026, bringing a diverse programme of contemporary art and cultural events to venues across Downtown Cairo.

Three Weeks of Contemporary Art

This year’s festival features 16 performances spanning performing arts, visual arts, and music, alongside six workshops and seven special events. The programme brings together Egyptian, Arab, and international artists, offering audiences the opportunity to experience different forms of contemporary artistic expression.

A Focus on Sustainability and Care

Led by founder and Artistic Director Ahmed El Attar, alongside Executive Manager and Co-Artistic Director Yasmeen Fahim, this edition explores how cultural work can become more sustainable and responsible. The festival considers what it means to care for artists, audiences, and partners while creating meaningful opportunities for cultural engagement.

Audiences Take a More Active Role

D-CAF is also encouraging audiences to engage more closely with its programme. While attending a performance remains an important form of participation, the festival invites visitors to think more critically about the wider programme and their own relationship with the artistic experience.

Returning to Downtown Cairo

Downtown Cairo remains central to D-CAF’s identity, having served as the festival’s home since its beginnings. This year’s edition examines the relationships that allow communities and places to endure, evolve, and develop new meanings over time, asking what makes a community, place, or festival capable of lasting.

The Festival Opens with Visual and Performing Arts

The programme begins on 11 October with Natural Scenes, an exhibition by Egyptian artist Nermine El-Ansari, which runs until 5 November. The performing arts programme follows on 13 October with contemporary dance works Tá Brón Orm and The Fallen at Rawabet Art Space. The performances will also be presented at the Jesuit Cultural Centre in Alexandria on 16 October.

With its mix of performances, exhibitions, workshops, talks, and special events, D-CAF’s 14th edition continues to position Downtown Cairo as a meeting point for contemporary artistic and cultural exchange.
