Today, we’re celebrating the 45th birthday of the multi-talented, influential, and inspiring Egyptian superstar, Nelly Karim.
Nelly was born on the 18th of December, 1974, in Alexandria, to an Egyptian father and a Russian mother.
In 2000, our beloved superstar began her artistic career at the age of 26. Her first appearance was in TV series Wagh El Amar, with the late legend Faten Hamama. After her career took off, she starred in many memorable series and films that will live on forever.
In celebration of her existence in the world of entertainment, we decided to highlight six reasons why we love Nelly Karim.
#1 Her killer performances
Nobody can doubt the brilliance of Nelly Karim’s performances. She truly deserves a standing ovation for her astonishing acting skills that she utilises in playing all sorts of characters, no matter how complicated the role might be. We can never forget how she dazzled us in one of Sokoot Hor’s master scenes, where she beat her own mother, or the viral scene in Li a3la Se3r, where she slapped her husband after discovering his betrayal.
#2 She’s multi-talented
Besides being an amazing actress, Nelly is also a well-known ballerina. Before starting her acting career, she joined the Conservatoire, the higher institute for music in Alexandria, to learn the art of ballet. She then started her career as a ballet dancer at the Egyptian Opera House.
#3 She has the power to make us cry rivers and still make us love her
From Segn El Nessa and Taht El Saytara to her latest, Ekhtefaa’, Nelly’s recent TV works brought us nothing but sorrow and tragedy. But in spite of the rivers she made us cry, she always earned our sympathy and kept us glued to our TV sets with her epic performance and gripping storylines.
#4 She’s a fighter by nature
Recently, Nelly was exposed to a health scare as she was diagnosed with a benign tumour in her face. However, just like the characters she portrays, Nelly proved to be as strong. She underwent surgery to remove it and won this tough battle with pride.
#5 Always young and beautiful
Nelly is an inspiration for all women her age. She’s distinguished by her natural beauty, her fitness, and how she always looks so young because she constantly takes care of her health.
#6 No matter the genre, Nelly always masters her roles
Besides drama and tragedy (genres she’s been known for lately) we have to admit that Nelly’s sense of humour in rom-coms never failed to make us laugh. We will always remember her hilarious performances in Ghaby Meno Feeh, Sehr El 3yoon, Ahlam El Fatta El Tayesh, and Bashtry Ragel.
Karim’s latest work was the sequel, El Feel El Azra2, that achieved massive success in cinemas upon its release this year, breaking box office records. The film also starred Karim Abdel Aziz, Hend Sabri, Khaled El Sawy, and Eyad Nassar. El Feel El Azra2 was written by Ahmed Morad and directed by Marwan Hamed.
Nelly is now preparing for her upcoming Ramadan TV series, El Nasabeen, which is going to be a comedy, alongside the superstar Asser Yassin. The series is written by Amr El Daly and Ahmed Wael and directed by Kamla Abo Zekry.
