Recently on Facebook, "poking" became famous once again. This feature lets you send a virtual notification to someone on your friend list. It usually acts as a casual way to get someone's attention, playfully interact, or even flirt. It's a playful nudge, similar to how you might poke someone in real life to get their attention, and X users had an opinion about that.

Some people started using poking with their friends as a joke, and it spread in a blink of an eye. They now do it as a challenge to see who can poke the other one more, and for some reason, it irritates some people!

Some other people don't even know what poking is, and they're most probably Gen-Z. They were born between 2004 and 2010, and poking was used a lot in the earlier 2000s, shortly after Facebook was created in 2004.

And, of course, a majority of people use poking as a way to flirt with their crush or someone they like as a way of showing them that they exist—trying to attract attention to get them to talk back. If they poke them back, it means they're interested too!
