Everyone has been on the edge of their seat watching Underage and trying to figure out what really happened to Hana. But is that actually the show's main focus? While the mystery is what keeps you hooked, the real takeaway runs much deeper.
The Plot Keeps Thickening

The story begins when Mariam, played by Jessica Hossam El-Din, realises that her friend Hana, played by Jayda Mansour, has gone missing. Slowly, one by one, the six teenagers become entangled in the growing mystery. Dalida and Malak, played by Judy Massoud and Tarnim Hany respectively, find themselves accused in the case. As the story unfolds, more connections are revealed between Hana and Ali, played by Abdallah Ashraf, as well as Nahed, played by Reem El Masry. The clues become increasingly tangled and confusing, but the truth is ultimately shocking.
Everything That Brings the Story Together
A great series is never built on a strong plot alone, and Underage proves exactly that. The show fully engages its audience through its visual storytelling. Every recurring location has its own distinct identity, from the schools to each teenager's home and even the café they regularly visit. Every small visual detail reveals something about the characters and the story.
The music is another standout element. The soundtrack perfectly captures the emotional tension running through the series. Rather than simply following the rise and fall of the action, it also reflects the characters' emotional states, making every scene feel even more impactful.
Six Teenagers, Unseen Struggles

As the story progresses, we begin to understand each teenager on a much deeper level. Every one of them is carrying personal struggles that help explain the choices they make throughout the series. In an interview, director Yehia Ismail explained that he wanted to create a show centred around teenagers because his own children are the same age, giving him a unique perspective on how they think and experience the world.
The Real Culprit
The final reveal leaves you with mixed emotions and plenty to think about long after the credits roll. More importantly, it reminds us that young people often do the best they can with the circumstances they are given. The ending raises difficult questions about the role adults play in the lives of the children they are responsible for. Do they truly understand the weight of that responsibility? Can they be blamed for their children's actions? Or is tragedy sometimes simply unavoidable?
Any great piece of storytelling leaves you with more questions than answers, and Underage certainly does exactly that. Full of twists and emotional rollercoasters, it keeps you guessing until the very last moment. It's a journey that's absolutely worth taking.
