What if you could actually walk inside a Van Gogh painting or watch Monet’s brushstrokes come to life around you? That is exactly what everyone in Cairo is currently talking about.

Running from April to June, Cairo hosts one of the most visually immersive art experiences to arrive in Egypt: Beyond Van Gogh & Beyond Monet Egypt. Set in District 5 Mall on the New Cairo–Ain Sokhna Road, the exhibition invites visitors into a multi-sensory journey where more than 700 masterpieces are no longer confined to canvases, but brought to life through light, motion, and sound.

What the Experience Feels Like

At its core, the experience reimagines how audiences engage with classical art. Rather than standing still in front of a painting, visitors move through a fully projected environment where artworks by Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet flow across walls, floors, and surrounding surfaces. Colours shift, brushstrokes animate, and compositions dissolve and reform, creating the sensation of stepping directly inside the artwork itself.

The Concept Behind It

The Van Gogh experience, originally developed by French-Canadian creative director Mathieu St-Arnaud and his team at Normal Studio in Montreal, is built around more than 300 of the artist’s works. Combined with the Monet component, the exhibition expands into a broader narrative of impressionism and post-impressionism, translated into a contemporary, digital format.

What to Expect During Your Visit

The visit typically lasts between 60 and 75 minutes and is structured as a walk-through journey. It begins in a lobby space, followed by an educational section that introduces visitors to the artists’ lives and techniques.

From there, guests enter the main immersive room, a one-hour looping show where projections and music merge into a continuous visual performance. The experience concludes with optional VR activities and a gift shop, extending the engagement beyond the exhibition itself.

Tickets & Entry

Ticketing reflects different levels of flexibility. Standard entry tickets, priced between 390 and 690 EGP, grant access to the core spaces such as the lobby, educational area, immersive room, and gift shop, within a specific time slot.

Flexible tickets, priced from 790 to 890 EGP, allow visitors to enter at any time on the selected day, offering greater flexibility for those with unpredictable schedules. Notably, VR experiences are not included in these tickets and must be purchased separately on-site, subject to availability.

Accessibility & Comfort

The exhibition is designed to be broadly accessible. It welcomes visitors of all ages, with free entry for children aged three and under when accompanied by an adult.

The space is wheelchair accessible, accommodating a range of mobility needs, though seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The experience is largely visual, making it suitable for deaf or hard-of-hearing visitors, even though interpreters are not provided.

Things to Keep in Mind

At the same time, the immersive format comes with sensory considerations. Bright, shifting lights and dynamic projections may cause discomfort for individuals with photosensitive conditions, while the sound design, integral to the experience, can be intense for those sensitive to noise. Visitors are encouraged to take precautions where necessary.

Can You Take Photos?

Photography for personal use is allowed and even encouraged, turning the exhibition into a social media-friendly environment. However, restrictions apply: flash photography, professional equipment, and video recording are not permitted to preserve the integrity of the visual experience.

Why Everyone Is Talking About It

Beyond logistics, the exhibition reflects a broader shift in how art is consumed in contemporary culture. It moves away from traditional museum conventions toward experiential storytelling where audiences are not just observers, but participants.

As Cairo continues to expand its cultural offerings, events like Beyond Van Gogh & Beyond Monet signal a growing appetite for hybrid experiences that sit at the intersection of art, technology, and entertainment. To book, click this link.
