Returning for its 5th edition, Animatex returns in 2025 from the 20th to the 25th of February at AUC in Tahrir Square, with tickets available through TicketsMarche. The festival will be screening animations for five days, which will vary in hours to suit weekends and working days, so don't miss the chance to enjoy the variety of this unique film medium with friends and family.
What is Animatex
Animatex is Egypt's biggest annual animation festival for Egyptian and international animated films. The motion picture screenings include diverse themes, short films, and feature films from international artists. Most screenings are for kids and adults, except for some films depending on the explored themes.
Animatex was founded by Youhana Nassif and Samaka Studio in 2020 to spotlight the Egyptian animation industry and provide a consistent platform for artists to communicate their works to public audiences and have a space to network and collaborate. The platform ultimately aims to drive up the Egyptian animation field globally.
Official Film Selections of Animatex's 5th Edition
Animatex has announced the official film selections for this year's edition. Besides screening 11 feature films, the selection includes over 120 screenings, categorised into eight sections: Arabian Films, Arabian Student Films, Commissioned Films, International Films, International Student Films, Documentary Films, Music Videos, and Children Films.
Animation Against Plastic: Plastic Mesh Fantastic
Animation Day by Animatex is back this year with a new theme: Animation Against Plastic. This day is for all sustainable animators who love their environment as much as they love their art. Animatex partnered with ButtonUp and EcoDahab to bring artists an opportunity to learn closely and practically about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment.
Volunteers will learn the recycling process, the harms of plastic, and how animation can be used to raise environmental awareness. Volunteers will apply what they learn by making a music video for the song Plastic Mesh Fantastic by Shahira, who gave us the gem of Kol Haga Betaady with Cairokee. This music video will be screened at the opening ceremony of Animatex and will also be used by EcoDahab to raise awareness.
Animation Against Plastic will take place on the 8th of February. You can register and learn more details through this link.
The Annual 30 Seconds Challenge
The 30-second challenge by Animatex is an animation competition where participants gather a team of two to five people to create a 30-second animation within three days to be screened at the opening of the Animatex festival. This year's theme will be announced on Animatex's page at 10 PM on the 9th of February, and the deadline for final submission will be 10 PM on the 12th of February.
