Once again, our people are making us proud on an international level. The nominations for the 77th annual Golden Globes Awards, taking place in January 2020, were just announced, and guess which two rising stars are on the list! Yes, Rami Malek and Ramy Youssef have both been nominated, and we couldn’t be more proud!

Born to Egyptian parents, Rami Malek has been making waves ever since the release of his hit series, Mr Robot, back in 2015. His popularity grew as he played the role of the legendary Freddie Mercury in the 2018 award-winning movie, Bohemian Rhapsody. Malek even won his first Academy Award as Best Actor for this role.

Besides the rest of the 38-year-old actor’s prominent awards, Malek now has 4 Golden Globe nominations, with one win under his belt. His success was earlier this year for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for Bohemian Rhapsody. As for the nominations, including the current one, they were all for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama for his role in Mr Robot. Fingers crossed that this time he’ll earn what he truly deserves! Also nominated for the award are Brian Cox, for Succession; Kit Harington, for Game of Thrones; Tobias Menzies, for The Crown; and Billy Porter, for Pose.

Moving on to the other phenomenal talent that stole the show, and our hearts, this year, Ramy Youssef. The Egyptian-American actor surprised us all this year with a hit Hulu series, in which he plays the lead role, Ramy. The comedy series follows the life of Ramy, a first-generation Egyptian-American who embarks on a spiritual journey in his politically divided neighbourhood in the state of New Jersey.

This is Youssef’s first-ever nomination (and hopefully not the last) in which he’s nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy. Also nominated for the award are Michael Douglas, for The Kominsky Method; Bill Hader, for Barry; Ben Platt, for The Politician; and Paul Rudd, for Living With Yourself.
