Watching TV during this Ramadan season means one thing: You’ll definitely find yourself missing the old faces we used to see on TV, especially if they’re deceased. Some of these actors were talented forces of nature that we truly enjoyed—a sentiment we know is shared by everyone, showrunners and commercial creatives included.
Because of that sentimentality, it’s not especially surprising to see dedications to our most beloved Egyptian actors in this year’s Ramadan shows. Here are the five dedications that stood out to us the most!
Samir Ghanem
via Youm 7 and YouTube
Last year, Egypt collectively mourned as we all lost the comedic legend Samir Ghanem. However, with his unmistakable influence on Egyptian comedy, his legacy is preserved for years to come. So, it made total sense to have this reputation celebrated and highly appreciated in a dedication at the beginning of season 6 of El-Kebeer.
It should be noted that Samir Ghanem’s daughter, Donia Samir Ghanem, was a member of the cast in the show’s earlier seasons, and that Ghanem himself appeared as a guest star, making the dedication even more sentimental.
Karima Mokhtar

When Rag’een Ya Hawa first started airing, we found ourselves pleasantly surprised by many of its elements. But the thing that stood out the most to us was the subtle visual dedication made to Karima Mokhtar (AKA Mama Noona, Egypt’s Grandma) in the show’s first episode, posthumously casting her as the lead character’s deceased mother. A touching gesture that made us fondly remember a marvellous woman.
Dalal Abdelaziz

Speaking of marvellous actresses, Dalal Abdelaziz was the presence people missed the most on season 2 of Fi Baytena Robot. The cast and crew shared that sentiment and made a dedication to the late actress in the show’s first episode, calling her the show’s godmother and the first person to believe in its vision.
Nour El-Sherif

Subtle yet unmissable, the late Nour El-Sherif was fondly remembered by us all as we watched WE’s ad, featuring Yasmine Abdelaziz and Karim Mahmoud Abdelaziz. In one of its sequences, Karim was seen dressed as Abdelghaffour El-Borai, a beloved character embodied by Nour El-Sherif.
Soad Hosny

If you’ve seen Orange’s Ramadan ad, then you definitely found yourself missing Soad Hosny and maybe even humming her old songs. Starring Mona Zaki, Nelly Karim, and Dina El-Sherbiny, the ad itself was a love letter to Soad Hosny and all her old films, which easily made it one of our favourite ads.
