In recent years, we’ve come to notice that most Ramadan TV shows have become repetitive and boring. And the same goes for TV programmes with sequels that are still getting shown to this day. And although we still watch Egyptian TV shows to search for that nostalgic feeling, we had no trouble finding it back in the day. Nowadays, it’s a little hard to see anything on TV that’s not intense and overly dramatic. In fact, it seems like everyone’s saying, ‘if you don’t do drama, you don’t succeed’.
We beg to differ with that last sentiment, of course, because many of the TV shows we’re currently nostalgic for weren’t this overly dramatic. To find out more about the shows we actively miss, check this list out!

Season 1 of El-Kebeer Awi
This season was one of the best seasons of El-Kebeer Awi ever, as charismatic duo Ahmed Mekky and Donia Samir Ghanem gave us a wonderful masterpiece that couldn’t have been released at a better time as it came right after their hit movie. Teer Enta also featured the duo in their first Hedeya and El-Kebeer appearances. Later on, Mekky and Donia fleshed out the characters and gave us this extremely wholesome show. We just feel like shelling out one piece of advice: We love this show, but six seasons is more than enough.

The first couple of seasons of Ramez Galal’s prank shows
Ramez Galal has always had a massive audience, and he was loved for many reasons. One of them being how he always made us laugh. With his prank shows airing around Iftar time, he inadvertently brought the family together to watch his quirky antics, which started off normal enough. But hasn’t he gone too far at this point? In recent years, all Ramez Galal concepts have become increasingly problematic, especially for children, as they feature increasingly dangerous pranks. Maybe it’s time for a reality check.

Zaza w Gargeer
One of our all-time favourite puppet shows in Ramadan TV history is Zaza W Gargeer. Even though they were puppets, we sympathised with Zaza and Gargeer and loved seeing their adventures every episode. We couldn’t have Iftar without them, which isn’t surprising—they even look like Ahmed Ramzy and Roshdy Abaza, come on!

Fawazeer Ramadan
The most entertaining thing we had in Ramadan back in the day (and in our parents’ and grandparents’ days) was Fawazeer shows, including the ones made by Nelly, Sherihan, and more modern spins on the concept. Not only did we love the riddles these shows gave us, but we also loved how we tried to solve them with our entire family.

A’elet El-Hag Metwally
An Egyptian show that changed the game, A’elet El-Hag Metwally was famous EVERYWHERE in the Arab World. Everyone (and we mean, everyone) knows it and has probably watched it more than once, which makes sense considering how juicy and drama-infused the core story is. However, we just don’t understand how any women would fight over Metwally, though.

Ma’ Sabk El Esrar
We miss Ghada Abdelrazek in Ramadan, and it’s hard not to when she gave us Ma’ Sabk El Esrar, a dramatic masterpiece that left us all gasping for air one Ramadan. It’s this type of drama that makes it clear she’s a genius, and we’d honestly love nothing more than to see her on our screens again.
