When we first heard about Wesh Fe Wesh’s cast, we expected a film discussing societal issues. Then we watched its trailer, and our expectations shifted to anticipate a feel-good dramedy that would likely draw a smile to our faces.
But as we sat in the theatre watching the movie, we couldn’t believe how wrong our expectations were! Never in a million years would we have imagined a film led by stars that are not self-proclaimed comedians would make us laugh this hard so effortlessly!
The movie takes place in a 24-hour timeframe in a single apartment. It focuses on various marital issues, starting with one heated argument between a husband and wife that escalates to a series of unfortunate events.
Amina & Tyson
Can you name a better person lately at impersonating an Egyptian housewife’s unbalanced mix of hot and cold sentiments than Amina Khalil? Yeah, we thought not.
As for Mamdouh, his humour in the movie reminded us of how underrated a comedian he truly is! It surely brought back some good laughs we’ve lacked in Egyptian cinema for several years now.
Asmaa & Shahin
Mohamed Shahin has given us unforgettable comedic performances for almost a decade, from Tamer W Shawkeya to Al Kabeer and La Tarago Wala Isteslam. Now, we can add Wesh Fe Wesh to the actor’s long list of credits.
Speaking for Asmaa, who amazed us with her performance in El Harsha El Sab’a a couple of months ago, we wished she had more emotionally driven scenes in this movie.
Khaled & Ahmed
Ahmed Khaled Saleh portrayed Amina’s overly protective, and at many times irrational, brother. The rising star’s on-screen charisma is a testament to the “like father, like son” proverb.
Khaled Kamal’s mastery of the subtle art of delivering jokes was the cherry on top! He’s living proof that you don’t need to overreact for laughs; Khaled made us laugh at the joke without being the joke himself.
Donia & Elleithy
At first sight, it seemed rather uncalled for to implement characters of a different social class in the film’s premise, especially with their “we’re from Misr, and they’re from Egypt” line in the trailer. But to say that the characters grew on us as the film’s events unfolded is an understatement. Whenever either of the two was on screen, they stole the scene!
Samy & Anoushka
Here’s a hint for moviegoers: the second Samy Meghawry steps inside the bathroom, brace yourselves for a rollercoaster of emotions. Your eyes will definitely water, first from laughter and then from Anoushka’s applause-worthy master scene. No spoilers; we’ll leave it at that!
Bayoumy & Salwa
Last but certainly not least is the most wholesome two inside this apartment. They will give you a sense of familiarity with the elderly kind of love you grew up seeing with your grandparents. Needless to say, Bayoumy Fouad’s presence itself guarantees a good laugh!
The Puppeteer
Waleed El Halafawy, brother of Kamel El Adad’s director Khaled El Halafawy and son of legend Nabil El Halafawy, wrote and directed Wesh Fe Wesh. Waleed gave us a two-hour film full of conversations, which might sound boring, but the constant interruptions with the most chaotic and unexpected events proved to be an absolute save!
Given that it’s his debut in writing, we’ll go easy on the director with the few plotholes that may have occurred. But we’d like to raise our glass for his noticeable progression since his directorial debut with Karim Fahmy’s Ali Baba, Amy Samir Ghanem’s Super Mero, and his most successful and latest work, Fi Baytena Robot.
