Grim, bleak and dark have been just a few of the words that have been hitched to one of the most unlikely films released this year, The Nile Hilton Incident.
Written and directed by Swedish-Egyptian filmmaker, Tarek Saleh, and starring Swedish-Lebanese actor, Fares Fares, in the lead role, the story is partly based on a real murder case in 2008 in following a policeman's search for the killer of a popstar.
Following a well-received screening at this year's Sundance Festival, the film has been reviewed favourably by most, with critics praising its ne0-noir leanings and its portrayal of pre-revolution Egypt, with the zeitgeist of the time being organically interwoven into the story.
But here's the big question - will the film ever see the light of day in Egypt? Almost certainly not. After shooting was shut down by Egyptian authorities, filming moved to Casablanca - so don't expect to see a The Nile Hilton Incident poster at cinemas any time soon. Or ever.
