Tim Burton has been ever-present throughout our lives, hasn’t he? The American is a director, producer, writer, artist and former animator (yes, he is everything in the industry!). He is the king of dark fantasy and mind-blowing horror movies that are sometimes not really horror, just very spooky. In some aspects, a little too spooky!

There’s no doubt that we all know and love his films, and once we see the gloomy, gothic scenes and the movie’s grunge-themed soundtracks, we know it’s a Tim Burton movie, no doubt! However, if you do happen to find yourself not quite sure if the film you’re watching is him or not, we have a tip on how to know for sure and, you guessed it—just look out for Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter!

But if you’re not exactly sure where to begin your Tim Burton journey, you can always start by watching his best works—all listed down here!

  • Corpse Bride

One of the darkest of Tim Burton’s animated stories is Corpse Bride, released in 2005. To this day, it’s still an extremely beloved movie with its beautiful dark/pastel colours with an amazing blue hue engulfing the whole film!

Starring Johnny Deep and Helena Bonham-Carter, Corpse Bride tells the story of a young man called Victor who marries the zombie bride Emily, who takes him to her land of the dead (and how spooky is that!). If you’ve seen this movie before or if you’re watching it for the first time, we know that it will easily be among your all-time favourites because its soundtrack and all-over aesthetic is EVERYTHING!

  • Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street

Johnny Depp as a demon barber? We are dying for that! Sweeney Todd is a musical about Benjamin, a barber in old England who wants revenge on the judge who sent him to prison, leading him to open a barbershop where he kills his customers with a razor. His assistant Mrs Lovett, played by Helena Bonham-Carter, has a bakery where she makes GREAT meat pies. The rest is, well, you should see for yourself.

Since it is a musical, here’s a great song suggestion. Just google “By The Sea by Helena Bonham-Carter”, and you won’t regret it—we promise!

  • Beetlejuice

We can’t say his name three times, but we can watch this movie a thousand times! Beetlejuice is an absolute gem of a film, and we aren’t sure if it’s because of the ’90s cheap CGI or the colours or the music! We have so many things to obsess over here, but the most important one is Michael Keaton and his acting.

So what’s the story, you ask? Beetlejuice is about a bio-exorcist who helps deceased couple Adam and Barbra gett their house back by scaring its new residents. Believe it or not, Beetlejuice also has a love interest in Lydia Deetz, who wasn’t really interested in him!

  • Edward Scissorhands

Robots? No, just an artificial human, invented to live amongst us. Edward Scissorhands is played by the legendary Johnny Depp (of course), and it’s about an artificial human who has scissors for hands. He’s taken in by Peg, played by Diane Wiest, and finds himself in a twisted situation in which he is accused of a crime he didn’t commit. The good part was that Edward eventually finds love with Kim Boggs, played by the beautiful Winona Ryder.

  • Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

Whether you’re a child or an adult, you definitely know about this phantasmic masterpiece, and, yes, Johnny Depp strikes again! In this movie, Charlie is a poor boy who lives with his family in a hut before he takes a journey to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory in an adventure of a lifetime—and yes, we really wanted a golden ticket too!

On his journey with four other children, Charlie and his grandfather visit the factory and get to know its history. Basically, what happened was that Willy Wonka opened a HUGE chocolate factory with his little Oompa Loompa helpers to prove to his dad that even if you have an entire candy factory, you can have good teeth. You sure know how to prove yourself, Willy…a  bit too extreme, but you proved yourself!
