Whether you’re staying home this Halloween or love to watch horrors to honour the season. Here are some picks from this year to enjoy by yourself, family or friends:

1- The Substance

This will either be the best horror movie you’ve ever watched or the worst; there aren’t many in between. The Substance is a body horror movie that tells the story of a fading celebrity (Demi Moore) who’s faced with society’s disregard for older women and unachievable beauty standards. Wanting to uphold her beauty and status, she’s driven to buy a black-market drug that creates a younger, better version of herself, which can surely have irreversible consequences.

The movie was considered a cinematographic masterpiece by many and was also praised for its sound and visual effects. It might as well call it the modern-day Death Becomes Her, but it's a way more disturbing version.

2- Late Night With The Devil

Look no further if you’re feeling nostalgic and looking for something with the vibe of 80’s horror movies. It follows a late-night 70s talk show host desperately trying to boost his view ratings, so he hosts a parapsychologist with a possessed girl on live television on Halloween night of 1977. The night unfolds horribly, becoming one of the most exciting episodes.

3- Longlegs

FBI agent is on an unresolved serial killer case, in which she finds a lot of occult clues and discovers personal ties to the killer. The movie is a psychological thriller with an insane, unsettling vibe; it’s very aesthetically pleasing as it has a lot of unique and symmetric shots. It also explores themes of generational traumas and mother-daughter relationships.

4- Strange Darling

A serial killer thriller that may be the one for all plot twists and story turns fans. Horror is not the only genre this movie carries, which makes it perfect for anyone looking to be thoroughly entertained; the story goes back and forth so many times between the present and flashbacks, which keeps the movie fast-paced and suspenseful.

5- Smile 2

The creators didn’t lie when they said it was scarier and wilder than the first part. Untied to the first part of the characters, the movie follows the same idea of being haunted by an unresolved past, but way more interesting and thrilling.

6- Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Rather than reliving in the glory of the 80s classic, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice definitely has its own personality. Keeping the same cast and the unique Tim Burton style, the movie’s a fantastic horror-comedy watch for a family night on Halloween.

7-It’s What’s Inside

If you’ve ever lost faith in Netflix’s production quality, this movie is here to restore it. A group of friends plays a game that lets them switch consciousness with each other on the night before a friend’s wedding. It’s colourful, thrilling, and absolutely suspenseful. The story is so well paced, and the acting is unmatched.
