When it comes to the Egyptian vernacular, 'driving safely' isn't found there. Even with all of the driving rules and regulations, Egyptians drive in a way that is known to us alone…which isn't helpful since that makes our streets super dangerous.

With serious accidents occurring on Cairo roads and highways daily, it was only natural that we felt compelled to discuss Cairo's driving culture.

It's important to discuss the way Cairenes drive, and here's why

All driving folk in Cairo drive somewhat recklessly, with Egyptian teenagers and young adults being especially viewed as out-of-control drivers.

Teenagers, in particular, tend to contribute to the prevalent issue of driving without a license, as a lot of parents use their influence or money to get their kids out of trouble. This is obviously not fair to anyone, as those underage risk several consequences, including the potential death of others. Who wants that on their conscience?

People need to pay more attention to the driving laws and start putting more effort into implementing them. Not only will that prevent more accidents, but it will also help improve Egypt's driving culture. And between the horrendous traffic, the accidents, and the endless road rage, this driving culture could use some change.

How could we change things

No change can take place without people actively valuing their lives, as that should be a priority. If more people start cherishing their lives, there will be fewer accidents on the road as well as less speeding.

That said, having firm driving rules is a must as well. People should be made to follow these rules, especially since they directly involve other people's lives. No one should get out of facing the consequences just because they can or have relatives who will help them do so—that's not how change is ushered; it's how more harm spreads.
