For the last couple of days, people all around the world have been holding their breaths over young Moroccan, Rayan Oram, who had been trapped in a well for four days, and unfortunately passed away just after being rescued.
We’re not going into graphic detail here for the sake of the victim and his family, but long story short, what happened was that the 5-year-old kid was playing on his father’s property before falling down the well last Tuesday. Taking extra cautionary measures, the rescuers did manage to take Rayan out of the well, still alive.
Sadly, the child which brought a tragic end for all who were waiting for his rescue. We can’t even imagine how agonising it is for his family.
The Power of Social Media Shines Through
Proudly, we couldn’t be more appreciative of how people paid attention to this serious case, with many participating in the online campaign to rally support for Rayan and his rescuers. The heartfelt reactions and prayers to Rayan and his family are powerful and have hopefully helped ease the pain and horror of the situation.
Hopefully, this humanitarian wave sticks around. There are many issues that we think the general public could turn its collective attention to.

Another Child in Need of Help…and, Are There Others?
While the case of Rayan was getting heavy publicity, a lot of people on social media pointed out there was another child in a chilling situation. From Syria, Muhammad Fawaz is a kidnapped child, who has been brutally tortured for four months. His family is worried sick, and so are we! The kidnappers are asking for a ransom of 140 thousand dollars.
Keeping the fallout of what happened to Rayan in mind, many people have been spreading the word about this case in the hope that authorities will take action and save him before anything more happens. Who knows? If this story becomes viral on social media, this kid might be saved and returned safely home.
If you see or hear about a child in a dangerous situation, please do your best to report it. It doesn’t matter if the case is just like Rayan’s, Muhammad’s, or is a case of abuse—we should all do our best to ensure that those around us are safe.
