Ramadan in Egypt is big business, none more so than when it comes to TV, as droves of 'mosalsalat' hit our screens, dominate water-cooler talk and flooding our social media feeds. This year is no different and Cairo 360 Arabic has this week revealed what some of this year's biggest shows have paid for their stars...
Adel Imam (Mamoun We Shorakah) 40 Million LE
Yehya El Fakharany (Wanoos) - 28 Million LE
Mahmoud Abdel Aziz (Ras Al Ghul) - 27 Million
Ghada El Razek (Al Khanqa) - 22 Million LE
Mohamed Mounir (Al Moghany) - 22 Million LE
Mostafa Shabaan (Abou El Banaat) - 18 Million LE
Nelly Karim (Soqoot 7or) - 17 Million LE
While new stars have been emerging over the last few years, it's three veterans that lead the charts. The legendary Adel Imam is this year's reported big winner, with a whopping 40 Million LE paycheck courtesy of MBC for Mamoun We Shorakah, which has received mix reviews thus far. Yehia El Fakharany, meanwhile, leads the rest of the pack, though it should come as no surprise; the versatile actor has been a Ramadan TV fixture for the best part of two decades, while Mahmoud Abdel Aziz follows close behind him with 27 Million LE earned.
Possibly the biggest surprise, however, is Nelly Karim's reported pay for one of the more intense shows this year, Soqoot 7or, considering the success of last years Ta7t El Saytara. Ghada Abdel Razak divides opinions every Ramadan, but is this year's purported highest earning female star.
Who said there wasn't any gossip during Ramadan, eh?
