There’s a general misunderstanding that suggests that the only way to do good, is through donations and other monetary channels – InterContinental Hotels Group, however, take a very different tact with its own good deeds.
Launched in 2016, the IHG Foundation has aimed to enrich and strengthen the local communities around InterContinental properties across the world through a number of different initiatives and activities, in which staff are directly involved.
This year, Cairo’s own InterContinental Semiramis got involved, taking on a program that touched on everything from the aims of bettering underprivileged communities, to promoting healthier lifestyles.
The first activity of what was a busy week came in the form of a visit to the underprivileged are of Stabl Antar, specifically at the Dreams school, where the Semiramis team hung out with the students and distributed lunch boxes. The school is a particularly valuable institution in the area, providing education opportunities to street children and engaging them in ways that help them build a future.
In promoting healthy living, the Semiramis also arranged a walking tour that took them to the Cairo Tower, Kasr El Nil Bridge and the Egyptian Museum, while also holding fitness classes such as Zumba and even dodge ball. Healthy living is, of course, a two-sided game and the Semiramis also tackled the nutrition side of things by adding a special salad menu for its team. Speaking of greens, every department head at the hotel also pledged to plant a tree in the Semiramis Garden.
The week showcased a rarely seen side of one of the most popular hotels in the city; one that boasts some of the top restaurants and facilities in the city.
