Some basic research can easily give you the 101s of many diseases, and you can incorporate that knowledge into how you treat the sick person, what you cook for them, what you do together and much more.
Always Be Prepared for the Unexpected

You can never be too prepared when it comes to chronic illness. If you are the parent, sibling, spouse or close friend of a chronically ill person, familiarise yourself with their medication and their side effects, and have some spares with you at all times. As they could lose consciousness, you would be their spokesperson with the doctors; it's better to always be prepared.

It sounds intuitive, but some days, you might feel suffocated or helpless. There will even be times when you may lose your temper, which would jeopardise your relationship. Try to keep in mind that it's difficult to support someone with a chronic illness, but it's even more challenging to be the one living with it.
Remind Them that They Are More than Their Illness

The most important part is not to define them by their illness. Yes, it is a part of them, but they are more than a diagnosis. Many chronically ill people lead healthy, everyday lives that include working, hobbies, going out with friends, doing sports, travelling, and much more.
An essential part of your dynamic is to try to remain positive, and one of the best ways to do so is to enjoy life as normally as possible. Even if some days are more challenging than others, remember that it is always darkest before the dawn.
