Egypt’s largest animal shelter, ESMA (Egyptian Society of Mercy to Animals), has announced that it could be forced to close its doors forever due to a lack of funds. The organisation has issued an urgent appeal for donations to cover rent, veterinarian bills, debts, medical costs, food and other day-to-day financial obligations. The organisation’s funds have now dropped to just 1000LE and ESMA’s founders can no longer afford to fund the project themselves. The shelter will have to shut its doors within weeks unless it receives donations urgently.
This will spell disaster for the organisation and the 1300 defenceless animals currently in its care.
In Cairo, we often have no problem spending hundreds of pounds on the latest clothing or a big night out. So now, it is vitally important that we come together to save an organisation which is the last hope for many of Egypt’s mistreated animals.
