They really had us going for a while; they really had us thinking that there was an art movement rumbling under the surface of Cairo’s hustling, bustling streets. We speak, of course, of Cairo Re-Imagined – an initiative that invited Cairo’s most creative to break the shackles and let their minds wonder to what Egypt’s capital could be.

But it turned out to be so much more; MNHD’s Taj City is on the horizon and it’s shaping up to be a game changer – a game changer that dares to imagine a more unique Cairo.

Like so many of the images that went viral via the Cairo Re-Imagined Facebook page, Taj City, as a real estate project, is looking to blend tradition with modernity; the charm of historic Cairo with contemporary luxury, while introducing amenities that, in both the short and long term, can redevelop and evolve life in Cairo as we know it.

This is all sounds fine and dandy, but how exactly is Taj City aiming to do all this? That’s a good question.

Spanning 3.5 million square metres of land, Taj City occupies a sweet spot in the Northern suburbs of the city, just on the extension of Thawra Street in front of the JW Marriott. Aside from its ideal location that allows easy access to the rest of the city, it’s what’s inside that has people talking.

With a Downtown area, its own business district, an international school and state-of-the-art medical facilities, its features make it a sort of self-sufficient city. With several outdoor shopping areas, including a strip mall, in the works, it really is shaping up to be a unique project that also includes a plethora of sports and fitness facilities, including swimming pools, squash and tennis courts, gyms and more.

With 80% of it dedicated to open spaces and greenery, Taj City also promises expansive walking areas, common areas, kids’ areas and a whole host of restaurants and cafes. There’s variety in the units too, which include townhouses, twin villas, standalone villas, as well as duplexes and studio apartments.

But the real clincher is the fact that it has been all been designed by acclaimed, multi-award winning international architectural firm, Benoy of London and with new phase, Shalya, set to be launched in the near future, there's plenty to look forward to.
