So, in honour of International Women’s Day, how about we give a proper shout-out to these inspiring ladies for making it and motivating thousands of women and girls to follow in their footsteps!

1-     Anissa Hassouna

An Egyptian politician with a heart of gold, Anissa Hassouna has been doing it all! Not only is she a member of the Egyptian Parliament and the Secretary-General of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, but she is also the executive director of the Magdi Yacoub Foundation and the vice president of the board of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights. Can she get any more impressive?

2-     Azza Fahmy

When it comes to jewellery design, Azza Fahmy is a household name who excelled in a male-dominated field and became a worldwide inspiration, lauded for her exquisite work. She founded her very own design house, ‘The Design Studio by Azza Fahmy’, in partnership with Alchimia, the Contemporary Design School in Florence.

She even published a book titled ‘Enchanted Jewelry of Egypt’, in which she tells us all about her journey across Egypt to discover the craft of traditional jewellery and how it’s worn in different areas of the country.

3-     Mariam Naoum

Daughter of the iconic novelist and critic Nabil Naoum, Mariam Naoum’s world was infused with literature from a young age. Following in her father’s footsteps, Naoum made it as a successful screenwriter, whose influential work includes Taht El-Saytara, Bent Esmaha Zat, Wahed-Sefr, Segn El-Nesa, and many more.

Her work was especially praised for the realistic representation of female characters, which the script centres around. She has also won several awards in Egypt, Belgium, and Dubai. We just couldn’t be prouder of this talent!

4-     Mona Zaki

As Egypt’s sweetheart, Mona Zaki is not only an actress who redefined female representation on the screen; she’s also known for her charity work. In addition to helping out in multiple Ramadan donation ads for several hospitals and institutes, she’s also a UNICEF ambassador and was part of several campaigns such as Yanabee’ El-Haya and #FightUnfair. Isn’t that a true idol?

5-     Tahani El-Gebali

In Egypt, we rarely hear about a woman making it big in the legal world, but Tahani El-Gebali’s name has echoed profoundly in the past years. She was an Egyptian judge and a past Vice President of the Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt. And yes, proudly, she was the first woman to hold a judiciary position in Egypt back in 2003. Her legacy was full of accomplishments until she passed away from COVID-19 in January 2022.
