While the majority of Cairenes scramble for the last scraps of what's left of the summer at Egypt's coastal hotspots, back in the capital, the city's venues are going all out for a very welcome three-day weekend. From Cairo Jazz Club, to ROOM Art Space, to Cairo Festival City, there's plenty to get stuck into.

JIM MORRISON TRIBUTE @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB (Thursday)

In Cairo Jazz Club's pantheon of concepts, the bar's tribute perennial nights have become something of a favourite. It's understandable -  some of the city's most talented musicians come together to salute legend. This time round, the man in question is the enigmatic lat Doors front-man, Jim Morrison, with the likes of Shady Ahmed, HanyMust and George Aboutar set to take to the stage.

ANTHEMS SEASON II OPENER @ ZIGZAG (Thursday)

Curated by Abou Samra, audiovisual concept, Anthems, was a resounding hit amongst the thinking man's clubber earlier this year and so it's no surprise that it's back. Kicking off what is shaping up to be an even bigger season at Zigzag, is the man with the plan himself, Abou Samra, as well as Italian tech house stallion, Simone Vitullo.

CHIATI & SEBZZ @ THE TAP MAADI (Thursday)

Producer, DJ and live performer - Hatem El Chiati is the modern electronic artist. Though he spends much of his time in Berlin these days, the Cairo native is back home and it's not his only gig of the weekend. Joining him at The Tap Maadi is another man you'll see again this weekend, the terribly underrated Sebzz.

GAWDAT @ THE TAP EAST (Thursday)

Over in the eastern nether-regions of the city in New Cairo, meanwhile, The Tap East has its own double dose of DJs - although not really, because the twosome in question is sibling duo, Gawdat, who - after a busy summer - are back on the Cairo grind.

DJ FEEDO @ STUDIO 70 (Thursday)

The brand spanking new Sheraton Cairo Hotel has made quite the impact since its recent opening and their entertainment programs are up-and-running this week, one of the highlights of which is at Studio 70. Debuting this Thursday is a weekly slot for the city's heaviest hip-hop head, the one and only DJ Feedo.

MUSIC PARK FESTIVAL @ THE PLAYGROUND (Friday)

In what is one of the biggest music events of the weekend, three of the region's most popular bands are coming together for one hell of a line-up. Jordanian rockers, El Morabba3, kooky Egyptians, Sharmoofers, and a band that needs to introduction, Mashrou' Leila, are all taking to the stage at The Playground at Cairo Festival City, for a day of music in the sun.

ASHMAWY & SEBZZ (Friday)

As part of trance troupe, F.A.M, alongside Mohasseb and Hassan El Far, Ashmawy has been gaining a wider fan base which has made him a recenet favourite at Cairo Jazz Club. This weekend, he flies solo on a night that see that man again, Sebzz, take to the stage for the second time in as many days. You can get to know Ashmawy a little better with his Cairo Gossip interview earlier this year.

AROUSSI, AHMED SAMY & CHIATI (Friday)

Friday sees Chiati back in action after his gig at The Tap on Thursday and he;s in good company. Joining him this Friday at Zigzag is the versatile Ahmed Samy, as well as a man who's no stranger to the Downtown bar, Aroussi, and honorary Berliner, Chiati.

DO'SOUKA @ ROOM ART SPACE (Friday)

Having made waves as Luka with quirky hit, Hashrab Hashish, the band now known as Do'souka have come to form a unique and distinct sound that is not done justice by the indie-pop label that they are so often branded with. Fronted by broodily charismatic front-woman, Luka, the group are back at Garden City's ROOM Art Space.

OKTOBERFEST @ THE TAP EAST (Saturday)

The second of three Saturdays at The Tap celebrating Germany's greatest gift to the world, Oktoberfest, sees The Woodpeckers Trio, A-Squared and bar resident, Teddy, provide the music at the all-day celebration, alongside all-you-can-drink beer and a menu of special dishes from the Mutterland.

As has become customary, Cairo Jazz Club's rowdy weekend winds down with some easy, breezy live music to ease you into a new work week. This time, the guys in the spotlight are El Dor El Awal, who bring their unique fusion of Oriental, Mediterranean and jazz.
