The Toronto International Film Festival, founded in 1976, is one of the world's most prestigious and largest publicly attended film festivals, taking place every September. Egypt is participating in the prestigious, internationally appreciated, and acclaimed Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) with two different movies this year. Honestly, we couldn't be any prouder, so here's everything we know so far!
Toronto International Film Nominee: Drama 1882

Created by the multidisciplinary artist Wael Shawky, Drama 1882, which will be screened within the Wavelengths section of the TIFF, takes place around the Egyptian Urabirevolution, weaving in historical themes related to colonialism. Divided into eight chapters, Drama 1882 is a film re-enactment of a musical play by Shawky under the same name.

Perfumed with Mint is the second Egyptian movie to be screened in the TIFF, also within the Wavelengths section. It was created by the visionary and esteemed cinematographer Mohamed Hamdy, whose movie evokes a sense of urgency, fear, tragedy, and survival. It's a rollercoaster-of-emotions-type experience revolving around the lives of two friends.

The Wavelengths section within the TIFF, which is the section where both Drama 1882 and Perfumed with Mint are to be screened, is one of the sections welcoming and embracing emerging talents from around the world who can help everyone look at and observe the world differently.

It is worth noting that the TIFF is one of the most well-known film festivals in the world. It is known and cherished for promoting new films. Running for ten days, the TIFF screens around 300 to 400 films from all over the globe, with diverse awards and sections that give different works their much-needed and deserved attention. This year's 49th edition of the TIFF is scheduled to run from September 5th to September 15th.
