In the vibrant heart of Downtown Cairo, where art and culture meet, lies Kenoma Theatre Company. Established in 2018, Kenoma has emerged to craft intellectually stimulating yet thoroughly entertaining experiences that captivate audiences and elevate the local theatre scene to new heights. With each production, Kenoma provides a platform for artists to shine, fostering creativity and nurturing talent within Egypt's thriving artistic community. Let us tell you about Ebni!
Ebni Play at Rawabet Art Space:
Rawabet Art Space, a pioneering institution that has shaped the landscape of Egyptian theatre since 2006, has cultivated an environment where independent artists can flourish, pushing the boundaries of conventional theatre and paving the way for bold experimentation.
With that said, Ebni has found its home. It is a riveting exploration of human nature and the complexities of modern society. Adapted from Yasmina Reza's acclaimed work "God of Carnage", the play showcases the lives of four parents from two disparate families whose worlds collide after a violent altercation between their sons. What begins as a seemingly civil conversation quickly spirals into a chaotic and confrontational showdown, laying bare each character's raw emotions and hidden agendas.
In a tribute to the late Youssef Armanious, whose contribution to the production design was memorable and noticeable, the show pays homage to his memory at the outset. A dedicated section featuring his pictures commemorates his artistic journey and reminds us of his enduring legacy.
The Cast of Ebni:
Malak Yasser:
Stepping into the spotlight of Ebni is a stellar cast led by the talented Malak Yasser, whose previous credits include performances in productions like "Garima Fy el Maadi" and "Sabaheya Mobarka". With her commanding presence and magnetic charisma, Malak breathes life into her character.
Nadim:
Alongside Malak is the seasoned acting coach Nadim, whose mastery of Meisner's technique infuses the performance with authenticity and emotional resonance. Through the lens of Meisner, Nadim guides his fellow actors to improvise reactions to the unfolding drama, creating moments of genuine connection and intensity on stage.
Menna Walid:
Menna Walid, another luminary in the cast, brings a wealth of experience with an extensive repertoire of indie and interactive theatre performances under her belt. Notably, her role in "Tah2i2" is a groundbreaking venture into live and improvised murder mystery theatre. Where audiences are invited to unleash their inner detectives as they help the cast solve a gripping crime unfolding before their eyes.
Ahmed Radwan:
Adding to the ensemble is Ahmed Radwan, a versatile performer whose career spans both stage and screen. With his rich improvisation and theatrical training background, Ahmed brings a dynamic energy to Ebni, implementing comedic relief in the show.
Writer and Director, Mostafa Khalil:
Behind the scenes, writer and director Mostafa Khalil orchestrates the production professionally and precisely. A graduate of the American University in Cairo's Faculty of Theater, Mostafa's passion for storytelling shines through his meticulous attention to detail and innovative approach to directing.
With a diverse portfolio of acclaimed plays, Mostafa's vision for Ebni promises to captivate audiences and provoke thought long after the final curtain falls.
