"How Am I Here?" Play at the Factory

Many Syrians who have been living abroad for a long time still have uneasy longings to return home, but they can't be sure whether these sensations are the anticipated yearning or another nightmare. Mey Seifan's cross-genre performance "How Am I Here?" examines these sentiments.

VR technology, AI, and synchronised reproduction of the dreams are used to portray an emotionally charged experience, placing the audience in the void between a nightmare homecoming and the harsh reality of exile. "How Am I Here?" provides readings of the preserved dreams that served as inspiration for the show. It is an audio-dream trip by singer Shadi Ali and has personal commentary, lessons on lucid dreams and utilising the arts to convey pain.
