The jolly Christmas season is finally here, and no movie screams Christmas more than Home Alone! The 1990s movie is still a worldwide favourite that is rewatched every Christmas by families and loved ones. This Christmas, we’re reimagining an Egyptian “Home Alone” that we think would be equally iconic. So, here is our suggested list of Egyptian actors we think could play the movie’s four brilliant main characters.

1- Kevin McCallister (Selim Moustafa)
Macaulay Culkin plays the role of a lifetime as Kevin, a rambunctious eight-year-old with a penchant for creating harmful inventions. When Kevin finds himself home alone after his family forgets him as they travel to Paris for Christmas, he rigs his house with booby traps to make the pair of burglars who stalk and eventually break into it suffer. For the role of the mastermind prankster, we thought of none other than Selim Moustafa, who turned heads in “Leh La’a” and is coincidentally also eight years old!

2- Harry Lime (Mohamed Tharwat)
Harry Lime is the hot-headed burglar who, along with Marv Murchins, forms a gang called the Wet Bandits. Harry stalks the McCallister house in hopes of robbing it, and his plans are further ignited when he finds it’s only occupied by an eight-year-old kid. But the robber’s plans are foiled, and they comically suffer from all the booby traps set by Kevin. Portrayed by Joe Pesci, Harry is a bizarre character that we think the talented and cooky Mohamed Tharwat could excel in performing!

3- Marv Murchins (Mohmed Anwar)
Marv Murchins is a tall dim-witted thief that targets the McCallister house alongside his partner in crime, Harry. When robbing the house, he suffers many injuries that make him furious and eager to hurt Kevin — but his attempts go awry in a comedic sense. Daniel Stern’s depiction of this witty character will forever remain iconic! However, if the role were to be played by an Egyptian actor, we think Masrah Masr’s Mohamed Anwar would make the perfect cast for the hilariously goofy thief.

4- Kate McCallister (Yousra El-Lozy)
Kevin’s mother, Kate McCallister, loses her mind when she realises, mid-flight, that she accidentally left her eight-year-old son at home. She tries everything to return to the McCallister house in Chicago, but this takes days — basically, the entire movie — and she feels guilty and helpless. We think the funny Yousra El-Lozy would be an ideal fit for the role of Kate. As a mother herself, she would have no trouble portraying the character of a concerned parent.
