Everyone has their own idea of comfort food, that one thing that keeps them going in life. As the weather gets colder, our comfort food becomes more sacred and all the more essential! While we’re on the subject, it is needless to say that we all know how delicious our Egyptian cuisine is.

On Twitter, someone (who you may remember from the intriguing Sushi Saga) decided to make a thread asking people what their favourite sandwich is, or more accurately, what’s the sandwich that gives them comfort. The replies alone will get you hungry and eager to eat them.

As Egyptians, many of us are hardcore fans of falafel! It’s just a given that ta’mea ranks at the top of the list with ALL of its toppings. Whether you are a ta’mea person or not, you will definitely agree with its popularity in Egypt. When it comes to our sugar cravings, however, who doesn’t enjoy the occasional sweet halawa and eshta sandwich?

Among the usual replies, we found a new sandwich. There is this seafood sandwich called “Shanbouka”, which was very interesting to learn about—we can’t wait to add it to our list of Egyptian comfort food!
