With almost of a year of rumours building up to an official announcement, it has finally been fully confirmed that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be set in Egypt.

Although a leaked screenshot of the game all but confirmed the rumours in May, the annual E3 set the stage for an official reveal by Ubisoft. Here’s what we know so far.

-The Exact Date That It’s Set

With so much history to choose from, Assassin’s Creed: Origins will be set in 49 BC when Cleopatra ruled over Egypt from Alexandria.

-The Map is HUGE

Speaking of Alexandria, a small glimpse at the map during a gameplay session with Game Director, Ashraf Ismail, showed that players will also be able to go to Fayoum, Siwa, the Delta, too.

-You’ll be Playing as an Egyptian Sheriff (sort of)

You’ll be playing as Bayek, a 'Medjay' -  a kind of elite paramilitary police officer who protects Egypt from corruption as well the Pharaoh interests. He’ll have an eagle companion called Senu that you’ll be able to dispatch to scout and scan areas.

-There Will Be a Lot of Flora and Fauna

The world of Origins will be lush with flora, particularly along the Nile banks and islands, while lions, leopards, hyenas, camels, crocodiles and hippos are set to make the game a living, breathing world.

-Improved Character Interaction

NPCs – non playable characters – will react to you either during missions or when just passing by, while rumour has it that there will also be interaction with he likes of Cleopatra, Mark Antony and Julius Caesar (we hope).

-The Game Has Basically Been Completely Reworked

Combat has been reworked from the ground up to be a more of a reactionary part of the game, instead of the one-button counter system that we’re used to in previous games, with the game becoming more of an action RPG than a third person adventure.

-An Indirect Boost for Tourism?

This is maybe wishful thinking, but some have suggested that, in a very round-about way, Origins could have a positive effect on tourism thanks to its detailed, real-life locations – because who doesn’t play a game and then get the yearning to see the places they’ve played through up close and personal?

Assassin's Creed: Origins is scheduled for release on October 27th.
