As the Cairo International Film Festival is one of the oldest film festivals in Egypt, it takes pride in encouraging the creative and artistic production of its own. Here are all the Egyptian films featured in this year's edition of the Cairo International Film Festival across various competitions and sections. 

 

One More Show

This film depicts the perseverance of the performers of Gaza's Free Circus and how they kept the show going amidst the rubble of genocide. Directed by Mai Saad and Ahmed El Donaf, this is a story of the unbroken spirit of the Palestinian people. 

 

Pasha's Girls

 

Adapted from the novel by the great Egyptian novelist Nora Nagi, it tells the story of three women working in a beauty salon. Through mysterious events, their stories and relationship to each other are slowly revealed. Directed by the great Mohamed Gamal El Adl.

 

Life After Siham

The director, Namir Abdel Messeeh, decided to make this documentary after his mother's passing as a way for him to honour his mother's life. He started with a desire to revive her memory and ended with the discovery that the experience of this documentary revived him after his creative block caused by grief. 

 

Eman

Directed by Amir Youssef, he depicts the struggle of a Coptic Egyptian who is desperately trying to find his missing mother. The film is a unique exploration of the complexities of memory and faith. It offers a fantastic perspective on media archaeology.

After directing many acclaimed short movies, this is Yasser Shafie's first feature-length movie. It explores the life of an old, retired couple. Everything seems alright on the surface, but when their fridge breaks down, it not only exposes the cracks in the system but also in their relationship.

 

Love Triangle

This is a documentary that has been in the making for almost a decade. It explores the relationship between two people after the death of the woman who connected them. Directed by Alaa Mohamed, it's a deep dive into human relationships and what holds us together. 

 

Cone

It's the director's graduation project. Mark Ayman's short film centres around Cairo's streets and its inhabitants, creating a cinematic delight of the city. 

 

The Last Miracle

Director Abd El Wahab Shawky depicts what happens when an editor of an obituary page misspells the name of a known Sufi sheikh. A mix of the supernatural and spiritual, this short film is an unexpected experience. 

 

The Unnamed

It's an emotional journey of a professional dancer's daughter as she tries to support her mother after she collapses. The film explores numerous unspoken aspects of society. Directed by Abanoub Nabil, the filmmaker explained the title of the film, saying that we don't like to name the things that we fear.
