Have you ever re-watched a movie that you loved when you were younger and got a little disillusioned thinking, 'How on earth is this so popular?' Here are five movies that seemed naive in retrospect, but we will still sit down to watch whenever they're on.
Camp
For young minds, this is peak horror, but in reality, anyone can see the plot twist from a mile away. It's obvious that the masked killer is Gamal. The plot gets so chaotic and makes no sense at one point, but there was a time when that movie kept us up at night. Now, though, you might watch it to get a good laugh.
Lakhmet Ras
This movie is an even funnier example, but it's actually meant to be funny. That scene with the floating head can fuel a kid's nightmare, but as an adult, it's just a hilarious scene. The actors are obviously too old to be in high school, and no adult could believe that Ashraf Abd El Baky's character is actually dangerous. Nonetheless, the movie is packed with iconic catch phrases like "Mesh Nakhnookh el yehsal fih kda." It's also the reason we got Saad El Soghayr's legendary song "Hatgawez", along with a few others.
ECU
This is the movie version of the phrase Need is the mother of invention. Can't find a college that will accept your GPA? No problem, just make your own! It could be inspired by the equally hilarious Hollywood movie Accepted. Still, nothing can beat that Egyptian comedy charm. The serious turn it took at the end was misplaced, but it remains a beloved classic.
55 Esa'af
It's a mystery how a movie featuring two pillars of Egyptian comedy, Ahmed Helmy and Mohamed Saad, is this underrated. Even though it's messy at every turn, it's still hilarious and deserves way more recognition. Waffaa's Mickey Mouse tie and denim on denim look should have been a huge trend.
Shikamara
The classic doppelganger trope has never been done so hilariously. Even though the whole thing is unbelievable, it cracks us up every time. The Bollywood-inspired part suits Mai Ezz El Din and Edward so well. On top of that, the song is catchy.
These may not be on the best movies of all-time list, but they remind us of simpler times, and they always manage to get a laugh out of us.
