This year's Ramadan drama season promises an exciting lineup, with 13 leading actresses headlining various productions across different genres. From gripping thrillers to emotional family sagas and lighthearted comedies, the diverse range of female-led series reflects a shift towards strong, complex women at the heart of storytelling. The competition is intense, featuring established stars and rising talents in both solo and ensemble productions.
Below, we take a deep dive into the standout female-led dramas of Ramadan 2025, analysing the themes, creative teams, and what makes each show worth watching.
We Ta2abel Habib
After a five-year break from romantic drama, Yasmine Abdelaziz is back with We Taqabel Habib, a series that bears striking similarities to her 2020 hit We Neheb Tani Leh?. Much like her previous role, she portrays a wealthy woman who decides to start over after discovering her husband's infidelity, only to find herself entangled in a new, complicated love story.
The show reunites her with Kareem Fahmy, who co-starred in We Neheb Tani Leh?, as well as Iman El Sayed, Badreya Tolba, and writer Amr Mahmoud Yassin, strengthening the connection to her previous work. Mohamed El-Khebery, who served as an assistant director on We Neheb Tani Leh?, now steps up to direct the series.
Despite the familiarity of the concept, Yasmine has consistently excelled in blending drama, romance, and comedy, making her shows easy and enjoyable to watch. While she has recently leaned into grittier action-packed roles, her return to romantic storytelling promises a light and engaging escape from the heavier dramas of the season.
Athena
Riham Hagag takes on the cybercrime thriller Athena, a series delving into the dangerous underworld of the dark web. She plays Riham Sabry, a former journalist who turns to investigative reporting after her sister's suicide attempt, an event linked to the hidden corners of the internet.
This marks a shift for Riham, whose previous Ramadan projects centred on personal struggles and family conflicts. Athena instead dives into digital crime, psychological manipulation, and the threats lurking online.
With a stellar supporting cast of youthful stars, including Ali El Sabaa, Jana El Askar, and Donna Imam, and a script by Mohamed Nair and director Yehia Ismail, the show has the potential to be one of the season's most intense offerings.
Lam Shamsia
Lam Shamsia has been in the works for several years, initially planned for Ramadan 2022 with Mona Zaki and an entirely different cast. Now, with Amina Khalil in the lead, the show finally sees the light of day, and its premise is one of the boldest of the season.
The series explores child sexual abuse and the importance of awareness and prevention, a highly sensitive topic that demands depth and responsible storytelling. Written by Mariam Naoum, the script is expected to deliver a powerful narrative.
Director Karim El-Shenawy, who previously collaborated with Naoum on Khali Balak Men Zizi and El Harsha El Sab3a, ensures a visually compelling and emotionally raw take on the subject. With Ahmed El Saadany, Mohamed Shahin, Yousra El-Lozy, and Tharaa Joubail rounding out the cast, Lam Shamsia could be the most thought-provoking drama of the season.
Hesbet 3omry
Rojina continues to focus on stories about women's resilience and struggle for justice. In Hesbet 3omry, she plays a woman who, after divorcing her husband of 20 years, fights for her rightful share of their assets.
Written by Mahmoud Ezzat and directed by Mai Mamdouh, this series steps away from her recent choices as it is a comedy this time. But still, it is a story about a strong, determined woman navigating patriarchal challenges, as per usual.
Ekhwati
Nelly Karim, Ruby, Kinda Alloush, and Gehan El-Shamashergy join forces for Ekhwati, a gripping drama about four sisters whose lives unravel after a shocking crime shakes their family. What makes Ekhwati especially exciting is the long-awaited reunion of four leading ladies in a single production, something not seen since Hekayat Banat. The show is produced by MediaHub, the powerhouse behind some of Egypt's biggest Ramadan hits, and directed by Mohamed Shaker Khodair, the mastermind behind Grand Hotel and La Totfy2 El Shams.
80 Baku
On the lighter side, Huda El-Mufti leads the 15-episode comedy 80 Baku, a fun take on financial struggles, marriage, and survival in modern Egypt. The show follows Boussy, whose wedding is on hold until she can come up with EGP 80K, leading to a series of hilarious and unexpected events. Written by Ghada Abdel Aal, writer of Ayza Atgwez and El Bahth 3an Ola, and directed by Kawthar Younis, the series boasts a strong comedic lineup including Walid El-Moghazy, Entesar, Rahma Ahmed, and Mohamed Lotfy.
Shabab Emra2a
Ghada Abdelrazek revives the classic Shabab Emra2a, a modern reimagining of the legendary Tahiya Karioka film. Playing a controlling landlady who becomes obsessed with a young tenant, this series leans into power and manipulation. With Ghada's track record of playing dominant, often morally ambiguous women, Shabab Emraa is expected to be an intense character-driven drama.
