A new series, Alfredo, premiered on ON TV and WATCH IT this week. Since its release, social media users have praised the show, leading to it topping the hashtags within hours. Its success is linked to viewers wanting a family-oriented story devoid of goriness and violence, especially with the recent rise of true-crime shows. So, here is a breakdown of why we loved Alfredo’s first couple of episodes!
Adaptation of a Best-Seller Book
It is based on a book by Dr. Mustafa Mahmoud under the name 55 Moshkelet Hob. The book sheds light on illnesses of the soul and torments of the conscience within Egyptian society. Some stories in the book will fill your heart with awe, while others will make you cry it out.
Additionally, it employs the scriptwriting skills of the one and only Amr Mahmoud Yassin, who has given us romantic classics over the years, from the Naseeby Wa Qesmety trilogy to Yasmine Abdelaziz’s Wa Neheb Tany Leih and Elly Maloush Kebeer!
The Struggles of Alzheimer’s
Alfredo tells the sad tale of Alzheimer’s, which is critical since it’s the reason behind the deaths of 1 in every 3 seniors. The show does not only focus on the patients but also on the caregivers. The latter is seen through the show’s diverse characters, either superhero-like characters who understand the power of care or devious ones who abuse it for their own benefit.
Ilham Chahine’s Exceptional Performance
Superstar Ilham Chahine gives a gripping performance with her portrayal of an Alzheimer’s patient fighting loneliness. Through her embodiment of the character, Soso, she makes us relive her feelings and struggles.
Visually-Stunning Settings
The first episode ran in parallel between scenes in Egypt and Italy. Ahmed Fahmy’s character, Farid, runs a pasta restaurant in Italy. That said, there are many exquisite cooking scenes that are just aesthetically pleasing!
Breaking Patterns
Since the release of the poster and trailer, the audience jumped to the conclusion that Fahmy and Ilham’s characters will be involved romantically, especially with the latest releases of shows and films that centre around age gaps in relationships, such as Azmet Montasaf El Omr.
To our surprise, halfway through the first episode, we discover that Soso is Farid’s aunt. With that being the case, viewers should wait and see before judging the show!
