For the month dedicated to love, Egypt’s early 2000s rom-com films make for great movie marathons. These feel-good movies were — and still are — a massive part of our lives, and we can’t help but feel their romantic and cheerful energy around Valentine’s Day. Whether you watch them with your partner, friends, or alone, these romantic comedies will set your mood right. So, let us share a list of movies you need to rewatch this month!
1- Eza’et Hob (2011)

Eza’et Hob is one of our favourites and depicts the idea that some people wear masks to hide their authentic selves. Laila, a nerd working in media and radio, pretends to be someone she’s not when she falls in love with Hassan, who coincidentally also wears a mask to hide who he really is. However, before the truth is revealed and all fronts are broken, things get hysterically worse between the two. This movie is fun and reminds you to love and accept yourself.
2- Sana Ola Nasb (2004)

Are you already humming the movie’s songs? That makes sense since Khaled Selim did a great job with the music! Sana Ola Nasb tells the story of Khaled and Ahmed, fresh college graduates who are unable to find work. So instead, the guys try to scam people for money and go to Hurghada in hopes of taking advantage of older tourists.
There, they meet Dalia and Nour, two young women with whom they fall in love. After seeing how different life is in the beach city, the con artists quit their shady business and start a tourism project with the support of their lovers.
3- Bibo We Beshir (2011)

Asser Yassin and Menna Shalaby were the couple we didn’t know we needed to see in action until 2011! The movie revolves around Beshir, an Egyptian-Kenyan translator for a basketball team, and Bibo, a drummer in a band. Both characters somehow discover that they’ve been living in the same apartment for months, which takes a toll on their quirky relationship.
4- Ga’altny Mogreman (2006)
via Dailymotion
Ga’altny Mogreman starts when Malak asks her wealthy but cheapskate father for her inheritance. Then, the funniest jokes and best romantic chemistry are born. When Adham says no, his daughter finds another way to get the money: she tricks a man named Rushdi Abaza into pretending to kidnap her so she can get the ransom money. If that wasn’t enough, Malak tells Rushdi a lie and acts like she is paralysed. This bizarre plot has one of the best love stories you’ll ever watch!
5- Sayed El-‘Atefy (2005)

Tamer Hosny has many romantic movies under his belt, but this one is the most unique! Sayed, living with his mom, has trouble balancing his studies with his efforts to recover the inheritance his uncle stole from his late father. He falls for Dalia, and they struggle to be together. Aside from the love story, the movie is a comedy piece you shouldn’t miss, with comedy giants like Abla Kamel, the late Talaat Zakaria, Lotfy Labib, and Nashwa Moustafa in its cast.
