So, here’s the thing—Bara El Manhag isn’t a new movie. In fact, it’s been out for quite a few months but only received its deserved praise when it was released on Shahid. So, when we decided to watch it, we were pleasantly surprised by the intriguing story that Amr Salama expertly brought into being.

Now, without further ado, allow us to discuss Bara El Manhag and its wide range of emotions!

What Is The Movie About?

Bara El Manhag tells the story of Nour, an orphan who lives with his aunt, cousins, and her abusive husband in an Upper Egyptian town. Outside of him, his life isn’t the best either, as he constantly gets bullied at school for having bad eyesight and being considered a nobody…until he isn’t!

When Nour is forced by his bullies to go inside the haunted house in front of his school one day, he meets the ghost that everyone is afraid of. Although no one is sure if this is a real ghost or just someone pretending, the ghost’s reputation still reaches far and wide.

Now, we won’t spoil the movie by telling you what Nour encountered in the house. However, we will say that it has changed his life forever.

Time For Our Humble Thoughts

Although you may think otherwise, Maged El Kedwany isn’t the star of this movie. On the contrary, this movie’s star is Omar Sherif, who plays Nour! Sherif’s performance is so genuine that it gave us chills and made us go through a range of emotions, having us laugh one moment and cry the next.

Another thing we really liked about this movie is its cinematography, especially how it captured the Upper Egyptian scenery in an interesting light. Personally, we’d give this movie a 9/10 because we enjoyed it THAT much, and, honestly, it’s been too long since Egypt has had a film with an original concept. So, if you’re wondering whether you should watch it or not, our answer is simple: Start streaming it now!
