If you’ve been following the Egyptian box office, you might know that Ahmed Helmy’s newest movie, Wahed Tani, has finally broken his cycle of bad films! With Ahmed Helmy finally back in the game after two less-than-stellar films, it was only natural that we shared our opinions on it.
Wahed Tani has a hilarious plot, a very catchy song, and an insanely talented cast—it’s no wonder that the cinemas were full to the brim with audiences who wanted to enjoy a much-needed comedy. If you’ve already seen the movie or are still waiting to see it, read on to see what we thought of Wahed Tani.
All the female characters felt a little insignificant (Yes, Ruby included)
Here’s the thing—we know that the focus of the movie was on Moustafa/X (Ahmed Helmy), but the depiction of females in this movie was poorly done! Fairuz (Ruby) was not only more of a supporting character rather than a lead, but she was also really mean for no apparent reason! Despite being on the poster and being a big part of the trailer, her appearance in the movie wasn’t monumental. Her character wasn’t fleshed out, and whenever she talked, it felt like the creators wanted some filler content. However, Ruby did have the charisma and radiance to pull off this character in a way that added some effortless coolness to her.
Although it may seem like the movie played up the ‘dumb chick’ trope a little too much when depicting the character of Sherweit (Nour Ihab), we have to say that it was refreshing to see a talented female character with issues regarding her career, her future, and tensions with her father, rather than just have her obsesses over her romantic arc. We needed to see more of her, though.

Is the plot a bit similar to Paul Rudd’s Living With Yourself?
There’s no doubt that the idea of a man suffering from burn-out before deciding to undergo a “treatment” that makes him a better version of himself was depicted before in Netflix’s 2019 Living With Yourself series, starring Paul Rudd. However, Ahmed Helmy’s plot was slick! It was done differently with a different story, and we enjoyed the Egyptian touch.

How catchy is the movie’s song?
“El-Haraka Dy” was the perfect fit for this movie’s vibe and X’s character! We haven’t seen Ahmed Helmy sing such a cool song since the iconic Oom Belel La’ song from Zaki Chan. Helmy did not stop at recording Wahed Tani’s hit song, though—he also used the tune for some hilarious TikTok content, inviting stars like Ahmed Saad to do the song’s dance. And if you haven’t seen those clips, we recommend you go get a laugh out of them.
