Although Ramadan has changed a whole lot from what it used to be back in the day, we’re not entirely surprised. We all know everything changes, because that’s how life is. However, we never thought that this one month that connects all family members, a month where “El Lama” is one of its most important aspects, would ever feel so different. The joyful elements are just not what they used to be—we think there is something lacking!
Naturally, we started thinking about a couple of the Ramadan things that changed over the years, going from essential to forgettable. And one of these things, fondly remembered from our childhoods and our parents’ childhoods, is El-Fawazeer. We’re certain you watched at least one of them and miss them as much as we do, so check this list to get your fill of nostalgia!

Arosty (1980)
Salah Jahin and Nelly gave us this ultimate masterpiece, knowing that if you watch it once, you’ll want to watch it again and again because it is incredibly wholesome. Arosty shows us all a riddle (or a Fazoora) that audience members have to guess with the clues she gives you every time you say the word ‘Arosty’. The way this type of Fawazeer was done was considered one of the most original ways to do Fawazeer at the time.

El Khatba (1981)
A distinguished Fawazeer show, El Khatba was totally different from any other concept you’d ever come across. In the show, Nelly plays El Khatba (AKA the matchmaker) and tries to match-make a bride to a man of her liking. Over the course of the episodes, we see these men as the matchmaker takes us on a quest to inspect them.

Fatouta (1982)
Considered Samir Ghanem’s greatest production in terms of wholesomeness and warmness, Fatouta was well-known and much loved at the time as Fatouta and Samoura, another Fawzeer show in which Samir Ghanem himself tries to persuade Fatouta to do something with his skills, were among the most-watched Ramadan shows.

Alf Leila W Leila (1987)
Sherihan is also one of Fawazeer Ramadan’s pillars! Not only did she do the iconic Alf Leila W Leila show, but she also has many more Fawazeer shows that we loved to sit in awe in front of, with our parents or grandparents sharing the same experience. In terms of Alf Leila W Leila, we don’t need to offer much explanation. The show was about Scheherazade and Shahryar and their story in The One Thousand and One Nights tale.

Fawazeer Myriam (2010)
Myriam Fares dazzled us with this Fawazeer show that used to air on El Kahera W El Nas. In this show, she gave the audience riddles in every episode, making them guest the answer before revealing it in the following episode. Not only was the show fun, Myriam’s costumes and her dancing reminded us a lot of the superstar Nelly!
