There are so many things we miss and feel nostalgic about from our childhood, like the games that we used to play on our PCs, PlayStations, or any type of electronic game machines found in arcade centres. Although we wasted most of our time playing these games (and getting yelled at by our moms for wasting said time), they made us feel happy and are a marker of our golden childhood years.

Most of these games had been passed down from one generation to the next with slight updates until people just stopped playing them, which can be attributed to rapid technological developments. So yeah, sometimes too much technology ruins pastimes we actually loved. Since we’re feeling particularly nostalgic today, we decided to list some of the games we truly miss from our childhoods!

1- Captain Claw

Allow us to tell you one fact: We’re pretty sure everyone played Captain Claw at some point in their lives! And we’re also sure that some of the people who passed certain levels in the game were seen as cool kids—we just know that! So, what is Captain Claw, if you can’t remember? Made in 1997, Captain Claw, like the name suggests, is a cat pirate who goes on missions and quests to find certain treasures. Unfortunately, because of the passing of time, this game is no longer available, though it remains a beloved, if ancient, game.

2- Tekken

Birthday parties and Friday outings in the arcade centre were THE nights we lived for, partially because arcade gaming was a tradition and partly because we all loved playing Tekken! A Japanese-made street-fighting arcade game, Tekken was first created in 1994 and grew insanely popular all around the world, with sequel games coming out even now.

3- Pepsi man

If you had a PlayStation 1, then you know and LOVE Pepsi-man! With its accompanying soundtrack and repetitive ‘Pepsi-man’ yells, this game was stuck in our heads for all the right reasons. And guess what? Pepsi-man was also a Japanese video game and is now considered a certified classic!

4- Crash Bandicoot

via Art Station

We genuinely think Crash Bandicoot was played in every single Egyptian household—-we have no idea why but we loved it that much! That game gave us a lot of adrenaline, making us always excited to play it. Released in 1996, Crash Bandicoot was a staple game until the late 2000s. That said, we have only one question that no one answered to this day: Is Crash a fox or a dog?

5- Sonic

The Japanese video game company Sega gave us this one, and we are proud to say we pulled many all-nighters for it! A game that’s been around since the early ‘90s, Sonic was usually played on either a Nintendo set or a PlayStation. Our personal favourite, though, was the 2006 Sonic game. And about this game, we only have one thing to say: We don’t know how our gaming lives would have been without Japan!
