Here’s something you don’t need a history lesson to know: As a woman in Egypt, having a job wasn’t exactly a priority (or allowed for all women) back in the past.
Nowadays, though, it’s a different story. Many Egyptian women are now career-oriented with a strong work ethic and even stronger personalities. Although a lot of women still face regular struggles every day with their work, they make sure to find their way and are greatly appreciated in their workplaces.
And yet, these women do not back down and are still wowing us with their powerful determination. Some even wowed us by taking on jobs that weren’t exactly ‘normal’ for women to have. Read about these jobs here!
1- Valets
We see and escape the “sayes” in the streets with all our power because, as we know, sometimes they don’t even help. But have you ever seen a female valet? If you have, then you probably haven’t seen many because they’re rare to find. However, we happen to think that they’re incredibly powerful, and we admire their determination in such a male-dominated area.
2- Truck Drivers
This job, in particular, is considered to be a very ‘manly’ job, with trucks needing a lot of power to steer their hardened wheels. Egyptian women, however, have found a way to put that stereotype to bed and started driving trucks just like men do. Although this job is seen as ‘inappropriate for women’, we admire how they broke this barrier.
3- Gas Station Workers
We don’t think this is an especially hard job since it’s all about making sure the gas pipe finds its way to the tank, but for reasons that we don’t understand, it’s been thought of as a male-only job for quite a long time. However, many more women are working at gas stations now, and we have nothing but respect for them.
4- Tuk-tuk Drivers
We see so many crazy-driving male tuk-tuk drivers; in fact, it’s all we’d seen anywhere until we started seeing female tuk-tuk drivers recently, and we love how they have taken to the roads too. And, yes, they’re also proving that ‘women don’t know how to drive’ stereotype null and void.
5- CEOs
Although we’re seeing more and more women becoming CEOs because of their hard work and determination, and many women starting their own companies, a CEO is still the one corporate position with a limited number of women. This, of course, isn’t something we see every day because women in corporate settings hardly get promoted even if they deserve it. However, we see these rockstars, and we admire them greatly!
