Excited about the New Batman coming out on the 3rd of March? So are we! It might seem redundant that there is a new Batman introduced to the DC Extended Universe every few years, but this time you DO have a reason to be excited about the next one in particular—Batman is set to be portrayed by the one and only Robert Pattinson!
‘The Batman’ is going to be an exciting noir/detective version of the Caped Crusader as a young man, as he faces off against villains such as The Riddler (Paul Dano) and The Penguin (played by Collin Ferrell, as we’ve never seen him before).
All this exciting new action is great, but what about all those past Batmen? With every actor’s childhood dream being a shot at playing the iconic Bruce Wayne AKA Batman (and the best comic-book superhero of all time), it’s no wonder that some of them have excelled at portraying him, while others gave lacklustre performances.
This, of course, means that there’s no better time to take a stroll down memory and rate our top five Batmen ever!
5- George Clooney
George Clooney may have the looks, the voice, and (definitely) the acting skills to pull off such a complex role, but he has sadly been a letdown in his Batman movies. Of course, it didn’t help that the
Poor Clooney doesn’t even sign his Batman posters from the fans. He is clearly traumatised, and honestly, so are we.

4- Val Kilmer
The glory of the ‘90s cinema just shines through in this version of Batman! With dashing stars like Nicole Kidman as Dr. Chase Meridian, Jim Carrey as the Riddler, and Tommy Lee Jones as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, how could it go wrong? Batman Forever was a decent superhero film with a cast of stars that gave great performances.
These performances, of course, include Val Kilmer as Batman, though he chose to do only one film and left the franchise afterwards. Yet, this film remains a cinema classic, so make sure you watch (or rewatch) it and tap into some ‘90s magic!
3- Ben Affleck
Oscar-winner Ben Affleck was reluctant to take on this role, as he was well aware of the big shoes he had to fill, with many of his Hollywood predecessors taking it on before him. But director and filmmaker Zack Snyder managed to convince him to give an old, dark, and broken Batman a go, which ushered the start of an essential part of the new DC Extended Universe, clearly seen in “Batman VS Superman”.
The film was incredibly hyped for obvious reasons, but it didn’t quite strike the right chords with the audience. Affleck went back to play Bruce Wayne in several cameos, and (of course) in “Justice League”, which had the DC superheroes teaming up to fight the “Darkseid”, and fans couldn’t get enough!

2- Christian Bale
Now, this was a tough one! You might be wondering why Christian Bale isn’t our number one Batman since he did such a phenomenal (and completely un-ignorable) job in Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece “The Dark Knight” trilogy. Nobody expected this Oscar-winner to be good as Bruce Wayne, especially when that character didn’t feel like the type of role he normally played.
His inspiring portrayal and those three films will forever remain one of the best versions of Batman and his world. Of course, it goes without saying that the late Heath Ledger’s once-in-a-lifetime Oscar-winning performance as The Joker, Tom Hardy’s spine-chilling Bayne, and more, cement this trilogy’s reputation!
1- Michael Keaton
Diamonds are forever, and so are these classic Batman films! Directed by Hollywood’s genius Tim Burton and led by the one and only Michael Keaton, “Batman” and “Batman Returns” were a huge box office success in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, and it’s still a timeless superhero gem.
Keaton was a poised Bruce Wayne—gentle, romantic, funny, and also intimidating. That being said, the films’ success cannot be credited to Keaton and Tim alone; a lot of it is also because of its 5-star cast. In fact, Jack Nicholson’s Joker paved the road for other actors to bend this complex villain to their will, while Hollywood veterans Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, Christopher Walken as Max Shreck, and Danny Devito as the Penguin gave equally spectacular performances!
