One of the greatest Egyptian comedians ever, the phenomenal Ismail Yassine had a lot of personality, even within the characters he portrayed in his movies. He also excelled in specialising in a unique genre of comedy movies, with his acting skills overwhelming the screen (and the audience) in several roles. In addition to his skill and talent, Yassine was such a household name that having his name alone in movies (and several of his titles actually did feature his name) was a major selling point.
Although you might know him from Ibn Hamido or Ismail Yassine Fe Mostashfa El Maganeen, Egypt’s greatest comic had so many other iconic roles that we honestly can’t get past them. So, naturally, we put them in a list for you to enjoy.
1- El-Millionaire (1950)
Escaping a murder charge, Assem finds a doppelganger (who doesn’t know about Assem’s many problems) to switch places with for a week. This lookalike ends up solving the murder, which didn’t really occur in the first place. It’s a witty, funny movie that you’ll really enjoy.

2- Ibn Hamido (1957)
We love this movie so much that we still use the old “effehat” that this movie gave us because Hassan (Ahmed Ramzy) and Ibn Hamido (Ismail Yassine) didn’t hold back on anything. They gave us love, drama, adventure, and mystery as they played the detectives we know and love until this day and went on a mission to find drug dealers.
Ramzy and Yassine excelled in this movie, alongside the beautiful Hind Rostom, Zeinat Sedki, and the legendary Abdel Fattah El-Kosari.

3- Ismail Yassine Fil Ustul (1958)
In this movie, Ismail Yassine’s Ragab falls in love with his cousin, Nadia, but his proposal is rejected by her mother, who wants her daughter to marry someone wealthy. This, in turn, makes Nadia suggest that Ragab join the military to get some money for them to marry.
When Nadia is forced to marry a rich man, Ragab and his friends from the navy rush to help him get his love back. And, honestly? We can’t think of anything more romantic.

4- Afrita Hanem (1949)
Think Aladdin, but it’s the Ismail Yassine version. In this story, the comedic legend plays Asfour, who wants to marry a girl whose father rejects him because of his poverty and lower-class status. Naturally, this sours Asfour’s mood, which is understandable.
While walking in the streets at night, Asfour meets a man who tells him to visit a cave in a mountain, and when he does, our protagonist finds a genie that changes his life and turns it upside down.

5- Hamati Malak (1959)
The story of this one is a bit odd, so brace yourselves. Here’s how it starts: An undertaker falls in love with a maid and asks her to let him know when she has news on whether someone at her work dies so that he can do his job. When the maid’s employer pranks his mother-in-law by pretending to “die”, the undertaker and the maid go on an adventure to find the “dead body” that has been transferred to a bunch of different locations. What a way to prank someone, though, right?
