Do you ever think about how celebrity couples don’t stay together for long after fame has come their way? Yes, we get that some celebrities can escape this loop of predictable divorce, and we have nothing against celebrity couples in general.

We just think that couples start detaching from each other the minute the people involved start gaining a little bit of extra fame, which is why we thought we should address some of the Egyptian couples who were together before being famous but got divorced once they were.

1- Nadia El-Gendy and Mohamed Mokhtar.

Nadia El-Gendy married producer Mohamed Mokhtar in 1978 after she ended her first marriage to actor Emad Hamdy (after she got her industry-breaking role in a movie and divorced him). Following El-Gendy’s huge success in the industry in record time, the actress’s marriage with Mokthar ended in—you guessed it—divorce in 1995. According to her, though, the pair still had a great partnership, even after their divorce.

2- Rania Youssef and Mohamed Mokhtar.

We’re mentioning Mohamed Mokhtar again here because he married actress Rania Youssef several years after his divorce from Nadia El-Gendy. Although this actress has two daughters from him, their marriage did NOT end on good terms. In fact, Rania Youssef wanted to file a restraining order because Mohamed Mokhtar threatened to harm her several times, according to her.

3- Yasmine Raeis and Hady El-Bagoury

Yes, this really happened! And, it happened recently, too, as Yasmine Raeis herself declared that the couple had divorced through her Twitter. Although we all know that Raeis started her career all because of her talent (and we totally support that), we can’t not mention how director and producer Hady El-Bagoury directed nearly all of her work. Including that music video feature with singer Hassan Shakoosh! In a way, El-Bagoury did make his ex-wife famous.

Is this the perfect example of being together until you gain a little bit of fame and fortune? Who knows.

4- Magdy El-Hawary and Ghada Adel

In the recent Besaraha Ma’ interview, director Magdy El-Hawary basically said he chose most of actress Ghada Adel’s movies because he thought that “some of the movies she chose wouldn’t have made her the great actress she is now”. Also notable here is that he directed most of her works and helped her be the actor she is by giving her roles that she absolutely perfected, but we all know that she excelled because of her talent too.

5- Faten Hamama and Omar Sharif

Even though this was Faten Hamama’s second marriage, her relationship with Omar Sharif was one of the most famous love stories in Egyptian history, as Sharif even converted to Islam for her. The couple, however, got divorced two decades later due to his becoming a huge Hollywood star and effectively ending their relationship. Tragic, isn’t it?
