Are you a workaholic? Before we answer you and explain what the symptoms of being a workaholic are, let us tell you just what the word itself means! Unlike procrastinators, any person who works excessively for long hours is basically a workaholic. But how do you know if you are one to a tee? Let us help you define yourself!

So, what are the signs of workaholism?

1-     Working late

If you are the kind of person who finishes their tasks during work hours but continues to work anyway, that is definitely a sign that you’re a workaholic (and a personal warning sign as well)! Also under this category are people who unnecessarily take some tasks to continue at home. Why would you overwork yourself? You’re home now; turn off that laptop!

2-     Little to no social life

Workaholics tend to postpone their appointments with friends and even family, which sadly might ruin some relationships. Therefore, remember that there is more to life than your workplace! Even though we know hard time management can be, relationships can’t be ignored.

3-     Poor sleep

Lack of sleep can be due to work anxiety is a serious issue! If you have signs of insomnia because you are thinking about tasks and deadlines, you should seek professional help to fix your sleep schedule.

4-     Being defined by your job

The thing about people who work more than usual is that others usually remember them only by their job. You may think it’s a cool thing, but shouldn’t we recognise people by their characteristics or interesting memories? Your persona is definitely more essential than your job title!

How to deal with it?

Being a workaholic might not sound like a problem at first. In fact, you might think it’s your own way of ‘putting your career first’ and being ‘work-oriented’, but it will affect you negatively in the long run.

But how will you work if you are mentally tired and on the verge of being physically ill? That’s why we think you need to define your limits and stay mindful of the boundaries you should set! Plan out your day differently and leave some room for other activities you’re passionate about. Commit to your plans and go easy on yourself if you fail. More importantly, ask for support from your loved ones to stay on track.
