Via 90s Fashion World

Taking a walk down memory lane through fan-favourite TV shows and movies, we remembered some of the weirdest trends that we thought were the absolute coolest during the late ’90s and early 2000s. Do you know the feeling you get when you look through your old photos and can’t help but cringe? Yeah, that’s the one. So if you’re up for a similar experience full of second-hand embarrassment, let’s have a cringeworthy walk down memory lane.

Thin Eyebrows

It was the most fashion-forward thing for a girl to have thin eyebrows, which were later only slightly thickened with a makeup pen! This trend was also thought to add a sassy edge that was desirable back then. Isn’t it crazy that we now have the exact opposite eyebrow style as the overarching trend?

Fluffy Suits

For some reason, young Egyptian men used to wear fluffy, shoulder-padded suits that made them look all serious. Supposedly. The fluffier your suit, the more businesslike you were. On the other hand, look at the spread of slim suits now? Talk about overcompensation!

Weirdly-Curled (or Crimped) Hairstyles

Both men and women had those weird never-straightened hairstyles. It goes without saying that, for girls, the gold-ish colour was the bomb! Of course, any colour or hairstyle is more than welcome, but did it have to be a norm for everyone to look pretty much the same?

Golden Classic Furniture

Classic furniture still exists and is loved by many people, but what we are trying to say is that every house was mostly furnished and carpeted identically! Our eyes were basically used to the sight of golden-coloured wardrobes and “neesh-es”. They were that normal!

Glittery Colourful makeup

The problem is not with the colours as much as the quality of the makeup back then. It used to look extremely tacky and somehow creepy. So, let’s be deeply thankful for the evolution of makeup materials.

Funny-Looking Sunglasses

Most of the sunglasses back in this glorious time were huge and would hide half of your face, not just your eyes! What was up with all that creepiness involved in our daily fashions?

Low-Waist Jeans

Jeans will never go out of style. The low-rise version of them, though, was the ultimate cool thing to wear back in the early 2000s….and nowhere else! Of course, it goes without saying that thick white belts were this type of jeans’ best friend for the ladies.

However, it’s important to say that we are not really ashamed of any of these trends, though we can’t say we are proud of them either! It’s definitely normal if you still enjoy some of them, and it’s not like the clock isn’t ticking for some of our current styles either. In a few years, our current trends will be weird to younger generations, but it’s the circle of life, right?
