There’s no doubt about it; Soad Hosny is an icon. We can proudly say she had and still has a massive impact on Egyptian cinema and music as well as many lives, even if she’s not with us anymore—simply put, there was nothing that she didn’t do, which is why we admire her so much!
With such versatile talents, Soad had many eyes on her, with her being an outstanding actress and artist who gives us chills whenever we see her on screen. Of course, it didn’t hurt that she gave all her roles the respect they deserved either.
Her wholesome personality, along with her various roles, gave her the title of the ‘Cinderella of the Screen’ as well as the unconditional love of Egypt, which is why we celebrate her to this day. So, in honour of what would have been Soad Hosny’s 79th birthday, we decided to write about her impact!

Her acting career
Born and raised in Egypt, Soad came from an artistic family, but her talent was natural and self-taught, which explains the spontaneity of her performances. Speaking of her acting, the actress’s career was incredibly influential, choosing roles that showcased her views on life and regularly tackling gender equality in things like her TV show, “Howa Wa Heya”, co-starring the fascinating Ahmed Zaki. The same goes for her movie “Khali Balak Men Zuzu”, one of the most iconic Egyptian movies of all time, in which she shared the screen with Hussein Fahmy.
Since we’re talking about Soad Hosny’s most memorable roles, we can’t forget about “Sagheera Al-Hob” and how it captured our hearts. With the actress starring alongside the one and only Roshdy Abaza and making us all fall in love with her both her childish and mature sides. She’s quite simply an acting genius!
Her music
Even though Soad was in many movies, there isn’t a single one of them where we don’t hear her amazing vocals! While regularly giving stellar performances, she also gave us great hits. One of those songs that you definitely know is “El Donya Rabea” from her movie “Amira Hoby Ana”, as well as “Ana Lesa Soghayara” from “Sagheera Al-Hob”, and, one of her best, “Ya Wad Ya Te’eel” from the movie “Khaly Balak Men Zuzu”.
Her influence on Egyptian women
Soad Hosny was great at many things, but one thing she was certainly known for was her fashion. With her style described as ‘iconic’, the actress influenced the trends back in the day, with many girls following her and waiting for her new appearances (and outfits) whenever she stepped into a scene.
But, she didn’t just know how to dress; she also knew how to steal the spotlight A LOT (a perfect example here being her classic black polka-dot dress, a huge hit at that time and an iconic look today) with her charm and outfits.
Her influence on Egyptian women can be seen in the way female performers approached the industry after she rose in the ranks, with none of them backing down from a challenge and making their mark. Soad also paved the way for many Egyptian women to strive to have it all, following in her footsteps!
