Car ads always talk about safety and privacy and what a good car could give you, but did Citroen understand the assignment with its latest ad? We don’t think so.

The huge car company apologized for its new ad starring Amr Diab as Egyptians said it was promoting sexual harassment and it shed way more light on it just because the ad recruited one of the biggest pop stars not only in the Middle East but in the world.

What caused all this buzz?

Citroen promoted its new car, the C4, and its new features, which includes a rear camera connected to the phone to capture any incident if there was theft or any severe action—that surely backfired in the ad though…but why?

Instead of showing what the car’s camera can actually do in cases of accidents, the ad used it to capture a model casually strolling by the street without her consent, which created a bigger issue in Egypt since a lot of people idolize Amr Diab but many women go through incidents like this in Egypt almost every day where they’re captured without them knowing. After the #MeToo movement reached Egypt, we expected people to know better.

Even after this unpleasant situation, the company removed the ad from its social media accounts and apologized for their “creepy” behaviour that caused rage on Egyptian social media, which does not tolerate any harassment anymore.
