With the newest Spiderman movie coming out, some people are still struggling with catching up on some of Marvel’s main characters and storylines, so let us take you on a tour in the MCU and give you a clue about what’s actually happening!

Captain America (AKA Steve Rogers)

He is the first super soldier and also the first avenger! Driven by his pure patriotism, Steve volunteered to be experimented on by scientists (Tony Stark’s father, Howard, was on the team) during World War II.

Captain Rogers, soon after that, becomes Captain America, a national icon and the world’s first superhero. On the other hand, he is still loyal to his best friend Bucky, and his first and only love Peggy Carter. Sadly, he sacrificed himself to save his country BUT he was saved and put in ice for 70 years!

Thor (God of Thunder)

Born far away from Earth as a son of a God (Odin, King of Asgard), this blonde hunk finds himself in an ordeal to prove his worthiness of ruling despite him being Asgard’s best and most courageous warrior.

When it comes to wisdom, peace and love, Thor was banished to Earth to learn about all three. His arrival to Earth with his magic hammer alerts Earthlings that they are not alone in this universe, and causes a ripple effect that we yet learn about in future films.

Honestly, the third movie in the trilogy (Ragnarok) is the most fun, daring and with an essential plot towards the most important event of this MCU Phase: the arrival of Thanos.

Hawkeye and Black Widow

They are two best friends, former spies and current master assassins for SHIELD, the organization that was started during Captain America’s time to defend Earth against its most dangerous threats.

They may not have superpowers or special armours, but Hawkeye (AKA Clint Barton) and Black Widow (AKA Natasha Romanoff) add a lot of heart, jokes and sacrifice to the benefit of the team and the innocent.

The Avengers initiative

The initiative was started by Nick Fury, Director of SHIELD, who wanted to assemble a team of superheroes to defend the planet against inhuman threats (space and all that). The original Avengers are Ironman, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow and the baddest one, Hulk (AKA Dr Bruce Banner), who has the power to turn big and green and literally SMASH anything in his way.

The original 6 Avengers managed to finally find the team spirit and take down Loki, Asgardian God of Mischief and Thor’s half-brother. Whenever the Avengers showed up in the same film, it is always fun to watch them interact, fight and work together. Check out The Avengers, and Age of Ultron to enjoy this super iconic team more.

Thanos

A collector of the infinity stones and invader of planets, This Mad Titan is the most powerful adversary to face the Avengers and the ENTIRE universe. His quest was to seek all super powerful infinity stones (mind, reality, space, power, time, soul) and harness their power in order to wipe out half of the universe’s population --yes, that’s half of all living creatures!--to bring what he called “balance” to his ideal universe, where half the creatures are using up all the resources and living in abundance instead of poverty.
