The 77th edition of the Golden Globe Awards ceremony has concluded, and as you all probably know, we’ve been waiting for this day for a while because our boys, Ramy Youssef and Rami Malek, were among the nominees. Luckily, American-Egyptian actor Ramy Youssef was named winner, landing the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy award.

After receiving the award, the rising star started his speech, saying, “Allahu Akbar”. He then went on and thanked several people.

Youssef, who won for his role in Hulu’s his series Ramy, beat four other nominees. Those were Michael Douglas, for his role in The Kominsky Method; Bill Hader, for his role in Barry; Ben Platt, for his role in The Politician; and Paul Rudd, for his role in Living with Yourself.

Ramy tells the story of an Arab Muslim family living in New Jersey. The series revolves around how the Arab American Muslim society spends their daily life, tackling the religious issues obstacles they face in the States.

Youssef is not the first actor with Egyptian descent to win the Golden Globe Award. Superstar Rami Malek won a Golden Globe Award last year for his mindblowing role in Bohemian Rhapsody. Malek, who has a total of 4 Golden Globe nominations, was also nominated for this year’s Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama for his role in Mr Robot. Unfortunately, Malek didn’t win, and the award was given to Brian Cox for his role in Succession.

Egyptians are making history as we write this, and we cannot be more proud!
