Arabian Business’s sister publication, GQ Middle East, just held its first-ever awards ceremony for the famed GQ Men of the Year. Luckily, two of our favourite Egyptian stars; Mohamed Salah and Mena Massoud, were named winners and we couldn’t be more proud.

The awards ceremony is meant to celebrate and honour “newcomers, lifetime achievers, and men and women who have left an indelible mark on 2019’s cultural landscape”, according to GQ.

Egyptian footballer and the Liverpool FC star, Mo Salah, earned reputable status as he won the title, “Man of the Year”. Salah’s debut magazine cover experience was when he was featured on GQ’s cover in late 2018. From being named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People to this, it seems like we’re adding a 28th reason why we love Mo.

Salah dedicated his award to his beloved fans, especially Egyptians. “They always support me,” he said according to AB Lifestyle. “Everywhere I go, I feel the love and support.”

On the other hand, Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud went from appearing briefly in single episodes, to landing the lead role in the Disney remake of Aladdin. Now, look at him also being named one of GQ’s Men of the Year. It’s no surprise that Massoud’s hard work, perseverance, and remarkable talent landed him the Breakthrough Talent award last night. Not only has the rising star has kept in touch with his roots and identity, but he has also brought his homeland one more thing to be proud of. If you’re still doubting how Egyptian Mena is, then there’s a lot you really don’t know about him.

It’s also worth mentioning that everyone’s favourite comedian, Bassem Youssef, was the host for the night. He entertained the entire crowd with his incomparable wit and lovely spirit. Even the gorgeous sensation, Lara Scandar, was there to serenade everyone with a magical live performance.
